Sprinkler System Maintenance
Spring Start-ups and System Evaluations
Sprinkler systems typically operate in the early morning hours, and thus, many people just “set them and forget them.” A routine system evaluation is a good practice for most people to ensure their sprinkler system is operating at peak performance. Our system evaluations and spring start-ups are a great opportunity to do just that.
The Common Ground Irrigation team will provide you with a written evaluation report, identifying areas of immediate concern, opportunities for improved performance, and areas for future maintenance.
Our system evaluation includes the following:
- Turn on and operate each section of the system.
- Check the heads and nozzles for proper performance. Adjust and clean the nozzles as needed.
- Evaluate the coverage and efficiency of the system and its components.
- Look for and identify any leaks, broken heads, and bad equipment.
- Reset the programming on the controller as needed.
- Provide a written report to the customer.
- Price includes the service call fee and up to 45 minutes of labor, and is valid for residential systems with less than 15 sections.
- NOTE: The system evaluation and spring start-up does not include the costs of repairs (labor and materials).

Winterization Package
Our Winterization Package is the best way to protect your sprinkler from the winter weather. The package includes one visit in the late fall to shutoff the water and drain the backflow device, and a second visit in the spring to turn everything back on and give your system a quick checkup to make sure it is ready for the summer. (Does not include costs for materials or labor for repairs.)
Routine Maintenance
Some customers prefer the peace of mind of having Common Ground Irrigation perform regularly scheduled system checks. We are happy to discuss the options available for you and your unique sprinkler system.Irrigation Technology
& Water Conservation
Water conservation is very important to us at Common Ground Irrigation. We must all work together to protect our valuable water resource. Today, modern technology has improved the irrigation industry’s efforts for water conservation in several areas.
Drip irrigation provides for water to be released directly at the plant root level, at a very slow rate, thus eliminating misting, wind loss, and water runoff.
Rotary spray nozzles with pressure regulated heads eliminate misting and overspray, while producing heavier water droplets that make it down to the ground level, rather than evaporating in mist or
blowing away in the wind.
Smart controllers provide the opportunity to adjust system settings based on real time weather data, eliminating water waste by only running when the landscape actually needs to be watered.
Common Ground Irrigation is committed to water conservation, and Montie Koch is an EPA Water Sense Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor, thus allowing us to help you conserve water and lower your water bill.

Sprinkler
System Rebuild
Changes to your landscape and outdoor spaces on your property typically necessitate changes to your sprinkler system. While your system was originally designed to water a large, open grass area, now a new pool, deck, or new landscape beds have changed the watering needs of your landscape. The following list may indicate its time for a portion of your sprinkler system to be rebuilt for maximum efficiency.
- Landscape changes such as new beds, plants, and garden areas
- A new swimming pool or hot tub
- A new patio, deck, or outdoor kitchen
- A new sidewalk or walkway
- An addition to your house or new shed
- New sod
- Changes to sun / shade patterns in your yard
When these types of changes to your yard are planned, it is best to consider changes to your sprinkler system BEFORE work begins on the new creations. Irrigation valves don’t work well under concrete and become impossible to access for repair. Heads left in place behind new sheds may cause damage. It is best to give us a call as part of your renovation planning.
Just a reminder that the pool guy or concrete guy is most likely not a Licensed Irrigator and is not allowed by law to work on your sprinkler system. They also may not have the experience to make the needed changes for optimal performance.
